Back from obscurity.

Standard

I can’t believe it was August when I last posted! What the heck is wrong with me???? Well, I have been pretty busy, that much is true, but still! I promise readers, I will do my best NOT to be so damn lazy about keeping up with my blog!

So what has been going on you ask? Well, work is the obvious one. My schedule is pretty crazy this year, it’s too the point where I don’t even get to check my e-mails some days. This year I have the dubious task of teaching grade one phys ed. Yikes… Talk about culture shock. They cry at EVERYTHING! Despite the crying, they are a lot of fun to play with, and (at times) it is a nice way for me to break up the day.

My grandfather died at the beginning of October. He had been quite ill for some time, so it was expected, yet still sad for the family. I didn’t get to go to the funeral unfortunately. I simply couldn’t afford a plane ticket to Ottawa at that time. That’s because…

Shane and I went to Mexico! Our first vacation in many years together that wasn’t camping or staying in a hostel. Besides living in a state of perpetual sweat and my hair looking like crap every day because of the humidity, it was a great time, here are some pics:

On a river being bitten by NO mosquito’s! Right before ziplining.
On the way back to the hotel from Bucerias.

Gah! Blogger is not letting me add another picture! Maybe it will after this sentence…

Yep, that seemed to do the trick. An awkward beach picture. I kinda like it :)
No pictures of Shane and I as you can tell. Well, Shane was quite protective of the camera and was unwilling to let anyone try to use it, so we got mainly picture of scenery and of me. I think there might be one picture of us together, but it’s not a nice one. I wish he’d take more pictures with me!
I became an Auntie for the third time in October! Here is a picture of my nephew Evan:
The super cute hand on my shoulder.
It was Shane’s birthday at the begining of November, so I got him the greatest nerd gift a wife can give. A sword. A replica of John Snow’s sword from the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ series (read these books!).
His new love.
Cutting the cake.
I think wife of the year goes to me!
Lastly, I have taken up a new hobby, sewing. I have always wanted to make my own clothes, but was too scared, and thought people would laugh at me. Well, one day I woke up and decided to just do it. I went out and bought a machine, and haven’t really looked back. It has been an expensive hobby to start ($1000 + in the first few days alone!), but I love doing it. there is a problem though, it has really cut into my workout time. I have very good intentions of going for a run, but before I know it, it’s 11pm and I’ve been in the basement for 7 hours straight doing nothing but sewing! My poor neglected treadmill needs a workout!
Never fear, I have a tabata workout coming up in the next hour with one of my besties. In the meantime, here are some pictures of my wearable sewing projects so far:
First wearable project: The cuddle up cardigan.

Second wearable project: The Danielle dress.
Neither of these are perfect, but I am so proud of them nonetheless. I’m working on a new dress now, but I’m taking it slow for the time being. Stay tuned!
And there you have it, the readers digest version of the last 3 months. Hopefully I will have many more recipes  workouts, and now sewing projects (!) to share with you guys! Thanks for reading, if you made it this far!

  1. Look at you go! Those sewing projects are faboosh!

What a lot of stuff going on in your life. Congratulations on your new nephew. It's always sad to lose a family member. Whether it's sudden, or drawn out, it's never easy. My condolences.
